bellfast is a seven-piece Japanese folk metal band consisting of a violinist and a flutist.
Formed in 1993 in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. Initially, the four-piece band played progressive hard rock with Irish/Celtic elements, and debuted in 2001 with the six-song EP "Faraway Prayers" (Mustang Records).
Later, in 2006, a violinist and a flutist joined the group, evolving into a powerful seven-piece folk metal band. Signed with King Records in 2010, and has released three studio full albums so far: 1st ``insula sacra'' (2010), 2nd ``triquedraco'' (2017), and 3rd ``the warrior celt'' (2024).
While being strongly influenced by contemporary folk/Viking metal from the 2000s onwards, their dynamic style is rooted in 70s and 80s roots music such as British/Irish hard rock, NWOBHM, US power metal, and Scandinavian metal.
While many bands that play folk metal choose extreme methods, bellfast's uniqueness lies in their commitment to a traditional style that maintains the original heavy metal/hard rock.
